La Sauvanie is in the village of Cherval hence the postal code of 24320 but Verteillac is the nearest town just 3km towards Riberac. La Sauvanie is the name of the hamlet containing 10 houses owned by locals and english families.
Verteillac has all the services that you would require but for wider range of groceries shop in Riberac or Villebois Lavalette with the supermarkets all having petrol stations. I have not seen any supermarket invest in electric chargers yet.
We usually drive from Calais (Eurotunnel) via Rouen, Le Mans, Tours, Poitier and Angouleme taking about 7- 8 hours. You can drive via Paris to Tours. Our fastest run is 7 hours. Tolls are about £55 one way. An alternative our the ferrys from Dover, Portsmouth, Pool and Plymouth into northern french ports. Portsmouth - Caen is family friendly if you want a break from driving where the drive is about 6 hours. The nearest airport is Bergerac (about 70 mins from La Sauvanie) from Stanstead (Ryanair) and London City (BA). Bordeaux is about 90 mins with flights from most airports with BA, Easyjet and Ryanair.
Like many houses in France we need to maintain our garden and pool. We employ a company to mow the grass every 2 weeks and check the pool weekly to ensure the correct chlorine and Ph levels. We have made a significant investment in a security cover for the pool which should be used overnight and if away for long periods. This complies to French regulations.
The house has wifi in the house and studio. Gas is via bottles and waste (toilet and water) is into a fosse. When showering please be frugal as this ensures the fosse is not overloaded as well as ensuring there is ample hot water for all. All rubbish should be sorted by paper/ plastics, glass and other rubbish and deposited in the large bins (normal, green and glass) in the hamlet.
The mezzanine has many books for adults and children, a computer that can be used on request and gym equipment (weights, cycle and a bench). Please ensure children do not use the gym equipment.
We require our guests, especially those of friends of our family, to sign a document accepting that they comply to the safety requirements of the house, kept clean especially on departure and accept responsibilty for any accidents that may incur when staying at La Sauvanie.
There are 3 restaurants in Verteillac ( La Cour des Miracles, L;Escalier and La Calice) and Chez Hannah in Cherval. All with outside seating. Both Aubeterre and Brantome are worth a visit especially for their restaurants and walking around. There is a McDonalds in Riberac and a English fish and chip van that visits local villages - Saint Martial Viverol near Verteillac on Fridays.
Though we have ample equipment to enjoy at our house there is horse riding in Riberac, canoeing in Riberac, Go Ape in Angouleme and archery in Verteillac. There are tennis courts to rent in Verteillac and a free one in Cherval. In the Gallery there are photos of Lac Jermaye which is worth a visit as there is a safe beach, free canoes and paddleboards and restaurants.
The coast is just under 2 hours away with the safe large beach at Royan / St George De Didonne and surf beaches at Cote Sauvage near La Palmere. Parking can be difficult if you arrive too late.
